Selected from approximately 500 submissions, the funded projects include publications, research, exhibitions, films, podcasts, digital initiatives, public programs and other formats that further ideas, discussions, and new understandings of architecture.

The work of each Emerging Voice represents the best of its kind and addresses larger issues within architecture, landscape, and the built environment.

N H D M’s Librería Barco de Papel Comunitaria received a 2023 AIANY Design Award. Barco de Papel, a nonprofit bookstore and cultural center, is the only Spanish-language bookshop surviving in NYC and a small but critical meeting place for artists, poets, and writers, as well as many immigrant and diaspora residents. The project renovates its aging structure while establishing a new transformable public interface that can better communicate its presence and facilitate the diverse programming of the cultural center that often engages the street.
