N H D M’s “Librería Barco de Papel Comunitaria” received 2023 AIANY Design Award. Nonprofit bookstore and cultural center, Barco
de Papel, currently in a former garage, is the only Spanish-language book shop surviving in NYC and a small but critical meeting places for artists, poets, and writers, as well as many immigrant and diaspora residents for nearly 20 years. The project renovates its aging structure while establishing a new transformable public interface that can better communicate its presence and facilitate the diverse programming of the cultural center that often engages the street.

N H D M exhibited in the group exhibit “Model Behavior : On the role of models in shaping behaviors” presented by The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art and the Anyone Corporation. 

N H D M’s “5 Youth Housing Prototypes for NYC” received 2022 AIANY Design Award. AIA New York’s annual Design Awards program recognizes outstanding architectural design and honors the architects, clients, and consultants who work together to achieve design excellence.

“Stories from NOW YOU BELONG HERE” (2021,12min) is on view in the Korean Pavilion at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition at Venice Biennale, from May 22nd until November 21st, 2021, presenting excerpts from "NOW YOU BELONG HERE: SMALL ISLAND D̶I̶S̶A̶P̶P̶E̶A̶R̶I̶N̶G̶ STATES“ project. The special finnisage installation-performance takes place on November 22nd, 2021, reconfiguring the main exhibition wall of the pavilion. 


N H D M has been selected as 2020 Design Vanguard by Architectural Record. “The annual honors highlight emerging practices from around the globe... spotlights architects doing some of the most innovative work in the field who will lead the profession in the future. They are the firms at the forefront of design, led by architects to watch.” 

N H D M’s project “Now You Belong Here: Small Island Disappearing States” will be exhibited at the 2020 Venice Architecture Biennale, directed by Hashim Sarkis with the theme “How Will We Live Together.” The project engages the past, present, and future of small island nations whose habitable territories are materially diminishing due to the sea level rise and other phenomena of climate change.

N H D M’s “Interim Urbanism: Youth, Dwelling, City” is shown at the  2019 Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism “Collective City,” in the “Cities” exhibition curated by Dongwoo Im and Rafael Luna.  The material assembled for the 2019 Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism presents selected critical instances and projections set forth around the historical and contemporary conditions of youth dwelling in New York City, U.S.A.

N H D M’s “Interim Urbanism: Youth, Dwelling, City” has been selected as one of the 2019 Graham Foundation grantee projects, joining a worldwide network of projects that the Graham Foundation has supported over the past 63 years. Grantee projects represent diverse lines of inquiry engaging original ideas that advance our understanding of the designed environment.  

N H D M is one of the Domus’ 100+ best architecture firms of 2019. The list comprises “110 profiles of the world’s most innovative architecture practices. Driven not by status or number of completed projects the offices are selected by the 10 past editors of Domus, alongside its current one, to give a snapshot of architecture around the world today.”

Wolgok Youth Platform is featured in 2018 AD Housing as Intervention (ed.Karen Kubey, Wiley) in Spatial Models for the Domestic Commons: Communes, Co-Living and Cooperatives by Neeraj Bhatia and Antje Steinmuller.

Wolgok Youth Platform, N H D M’s co-living prototype for the underprivileged youth in Seoul, has been selected for BRACKET #5 [On Sharing]. This issue of BRACKET features design work and papers that offer contemporary models and historic readings of the roles, mechanisms, and outcome of sharing. 

N H D M wins a 2018 AIANY Design Honor Award for the Nam June Paik Art Center Renovation

N H D M is a winner of the 2018 New Practices New York award, a biennial competition that serves as the preeminent platform to recognize innovative architecture and design firms in NYC. Sponsored by the AIANY New Practices Committee, the competition honors architects that utilize unique and innovative strategies, both in the projects they undertake and the practices they have established.
