OPEN GROUND / The Nam June Paik Art Center renovation project reconfigures about 12,000 sf of the existing museum and provides the public with new ways to interpret, linger, exchange, and inhabit the institution as a new interior landscape.

WOLGOK YOUTH PLATFORM / Co-Living prototype for marginalized youth developed in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity Korea. The project combines new supportive dwelling spaces for youth with their educational and entrepreneurial platforms, a branch library, and a new outdoor space for the surrounding neighborhood.

MIGRATING FUTURES / Commissioned by the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale, Korean Pavilion, the project investigates the historical and contemporary geographies of diaspora and transnational migrancy in Korea and Asia, and explores their emergent spatial typologies, new socialities, and potently intersectional cultural and agentive capacities.

BARCO DE PAPEL / The nonprofit bookstore and cultural center in Queens is the only Spanish-language bookshop surviving in NYC. The project establishes a new transformable public interface that can better communicate its presence and facilitate the diverse programming of the cultural center that often engages the street.

BERGEN ARCHES / The Bergen Arches (a.k.a the "Erie Cut"), transforms a mile-long sunken abandoned railroad right of way in Jersey City into a public park, originally constructed between 1906 and 1910 by blasting through 800,000 cubic yards of the blue rock.

FLUX PLAYROOM / A new educational space in an existing local art institution providing a space for user guided self-learning and topical exploration designed with media integrated custom furnishing, and infrastructure for moving image projections and other future technologies.

MANUEL DE DIOS UNANUE PARK / Working with local activists and community organizations, the project renovates the existing park with a new occupiable surface that allows for a new space for community and activism-related programming while supporting new and existing flora and ecosystems.

NAM JUNE PAIK LIBRARY / A new “library machine” utilizes Nam June Paik’s notion of random access in transforming an underutilized institutional space while reconceptualizing the traditional library in a developing satellite town outside of Seoul.

PRINCETON CHARTER SCHOOL / A 14,000sf school for kintergardeners through fourth grade, including a multipurpose assembly hall (RLAPC).

"LOBBY CASE" / Redefines the museum lobby as an extension of the public realm for cultural events and day to day use through 6 mobile elements. The temporary project utilizes reconfigurable elements while the case itself transforms into exhibition rooms, stage, and wall.

INTERIM URBANISM: YOUTH, DWELLING, CITY / Explores new possibilities in the spaces that youths shape and inhabit, and their intersections with social, political, economic uncertainties, and emergent lifestyles.

M A A / Ongoing design for a new art institution for a significant collection, engaging 18,000 sf historical structure in Manhattan, NYC. The project is comprised of interconnected permanent and temporary galleries assembled around a series of outdoor spaces for public programming, and administrative, research, conservation, educational spaces for the new institution.

Chelsea Art Storage / Transformation of an existing building in the Chelsea art district in Manhattan into an experimental art storage facility with a gallery space for large works and private viewing amenities.

NOW YOU BELONG HERE/SMALL ISLAND DISAPPEARING STATES. The project considers the past, present, and future of small island nations whose habitable territories are materially diminishing due to sea level rise and other phenomena of climate change.

WHOLE HEARTS: A PROPOSAL FOR TIMES SQUARE / An inhabitable sculpture that frames new interactions and relationships, composed of a group of dynamically arranged small pavilions and scattered seats, the project offers chance encounters and collectivity, and a reusable infrastructure for the city.

CO-LIVING THE CITY / A chapter in "Next Home" (Open City Design Institute. 2017) details the contexts and scales of shared collectivity in the Wolgok Youth Platform project.

EXCISE CITY / A research project exploring the paradigms of destruction in housing policies of Detroit and Seoul, the former through the razing of derelict homes in a shrinking city, the latter through a continual cycle of demolition and construction in the name of modernization and development.

NODEUL ISLAND / A new civic structure in the city island of the Han River, proposing an experimental new ground based on the traditional Korean unit of agricultural “badt.” Commissioned by the City of Seoul, the project was exhibited at the 2014 Seoul Architecture Festival.

HOME FOR ALL (SHAPES OF IDEALISMS) / A new souvenir for public engagement commissioned by the Storefront for Art and Architecture, Home for All is a collection of the multifarious idealisms through the representation of fifteen selected form(at)s of homes and communities found in Queens Community Board 6 - and a proposal for one new addition.

POST-SCRIBING / An exhibition at the Hartell Gallery at Cornell University, Post-Scribing features selected works of N H D M, each dealing with the conditions of “post-___” urbanisms, where the existing environments become novel types of tabula rasa that provoke new architectural strategies and potentials fo the new city.

(NO) STOP MARCONI / The alternative futures and new housing typologies are explored in transforming vacant Marconi Europoint towers in Rotterdam, NL commissioned by the 5th International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam Biennale.

PROJECT FOR THE CHEVY IN THE HOLE / Flexibly occupying the 130-acre abandoned manufacturing grounds in Flint, MI, the transient festival structures frame the formal and informal occupation of the vast void oscillating between object and field; figure and ground.

SEWOON SANGA PARK / Engaging the SeWoon Complex, a 1 km long mixed-use mega-structure in Seoul, the project imagines a large-scale linear park that allows and supports the existing and surrounding fabric of the city.

PERFORMA HUB / A proposal for the invited competition for the Performa Biennale Hub posits a reprogrammable (temporary) hub that accommodates the needs of the performance artists and their audiences for the biennial event and beyond.

PROGENY OF PROGRAM / The research project, Progeny of Program, explores the notion of programmatic manipulations as a significant motivator of architecture both in the historical and contemporary context. The topic was explored in a series of history/theory seminars.

RIGHT OF WAY, REPROGRAMMABLE CITY / The project researches both the functioning and outdated linear municipal infrastructural zones that organize various logistical and material flows in metropolitan New York - and generates conceptional projections for the potential futures beyond the notion of the mono-functional or obsolete conduit.

HOME ROOM / The ongoing adaptable townhouse project is designed to respond flexibly to the changing lifestyles and household structures of the occupants. Communal amenity zones modulate diverse convertible and combinable unit types, from a large single-family home to coliving units shared between unrelated individuals.

PROJECT FOR THE CHEVY IN THE HOLE / The winner of Flint Public Art Project Competition for Free City Festival, the project engages the eponymous 130-acre abandoned manufacturing grounds and articulates its potential as transient yet central semi-temporary civic space.

UMMA STENN GALLERY EXHIBITION / A public exhibition for the work of N H D M focusing on global practices and multiple scales using the existing framework of the city for the exploration of design.
